The Department of Communication supported the design and implementation of a new course in Spring 1999, Advanced Health Communication. This course incorporates student involvement in each phase of the RU SURE campaign. It provides an opportunity for undergraduate and master's level students to use the RU SURE project as a learning experience in college drinking issues.

From an experiential learning perspective, the design of the course incorporates alcohol-related issues into a classroom to provide students with the cognitive and behavioral skills they need to take the information from the RU SURE campaign and incorporate it into their living skills. All course activities are based on the Socially Situated Experiential Learning Model (Lederman & Stewart, 1999).

Written by Linda C. Lederman, Ph.D., and Lea P. Stewart. Ph.D., this book describes the development of the RU SURE Campaign including its theoretical framework and innovative design. Suggestions are also given for implementing a similar campaign on other campuses. As a result, the volume adds to the work on alcohol prevention on college campuses and creates a safer learning environment for all students.
