Projects: Rutgers Coalition to Support Recovery and Environmental Change

The purpose of this project is to expand and enhance existing programs and services designed to reduce alcohol and other drug (AOD) abuse among Rutgers University students on New Brunswick and Newark campuses and to support the development of healthier lifestyles including recovery from addictions. The project involves a comprehensive collaboration involving the Rutgers Alcohol and Other Drug Assistance Program for Students (ADAPS), Health Promotion (HPRO) in Newark and Health Outreach Promotion and Education (HOPE) in New Brunswick, the Rutgers Center for Communication and Health Issues (CHI), and the Rutgers Center of Alcohol Studies (CAS). Our team, the Rutgers Coalition to Support Recovery and Environmental Change, will work with a University AOD Task Force and Community Coalition to expand existing environmental management strategies and develop a long range strategic plan to support campus cultures that do not view dangerous drinking and drug use as acceptable or normative. We will also expand our programs to identify and intervene with students who have Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) and to increase the number of students who have access to treatment and campus recovery support services including Recovery Housing.
